Clara Smit, 89, of Waupun, went to her heavenly home Friday, December 21, 2018 at Marvin’s Manor in Waupun.

Clara was born September 7, 1929 in Winnebago County, the daughter of Frank and Emma Zarbrook Kresel. On September 22, 1950 she married John Smit Jr. at Pella Lutheran Church in Waupun. Following their marriage the couple resided in the Waupun area where they farmed and later moved to Waupun. Clara and John enjoyed family time at their cottage on Silver Spring Lake. Clara was an avid card player and enjoyed fishing with John. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Waupun.

Clara is survived by four children: Perle (Dale) Macheel of Randolph, Sharon (Eugene) Damsteegt of Waupun, Calvin Smit of Waupun, and Peggie (Brian) Roska of Waupun; 13 grandchildren: Jeff (Heather) Macheel, Stacy (Fred) Saeman, Jonathan (Jessica) Macheel, Jennifer (Jamie) Reisterer, Amy (Chris) Destache, Melissa (Joe) Reinhold, Tracy (Bob) Klentz, John Smit, Craig Smit, Caleb Smit, Cristina Smit and special friend, Dan Kastein, and Jessica Roska; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Adeline Zacharies of Princeton; a sister-in-law, Edith Smit of Brandon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, John; and three sisters.

Visitation

Friends and relatives may call on the family at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Services

Funeral services for Clara Smit will be held Monday, December 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Waupun with Rev. Barry Lang officiating.

Burial

Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun.

    Dear Family….our sincere sympathy to all who are mourning the passing of Clara…May the Lord be your strength and comfort at this time and in the weeks ahead.
