To Kelly’s family I send you my deepest sympathy and prayers to help you through this sad time. Kelly and I grew up together as neighbors since the 3rd grade and classmates graduating in 1976. So glad I got to see him last year at our class reunion and catch up. He was a very kind hearted person and always stopped to chat whenever I would see him all these years. He will be missed but always remembered for the wonderful person he was.

Growing up as friends in the 1960’s and 70’s, Kelly and his big brother Randy lived on one side of McCune Park in Waupun, and I on the other. We had a great time…those were the days my friends, those were the days! This then, is a story of my earliest memories, when we first met.

Kelly, being one year younger than his big brother, Randy and two years younger than me, had his hands full playing outside with the two of us “older” boys. But as I remember it, in no short order, Kelly not only found himself but found no fear in presenting himself to us!

Kelly’s big brother and I, being older, bigger, faster and stronger, began to play as if akin to a couple of young wolf pups toying with an even younger wolf pup, the later being Kelly.

On the Sanders’ front lawn, the three of us ran about, darting here, there and everywhere. Kelly was no match for our speed but no matter, he was all in!

There were hours of laughing, shouting, screaming, hootin’ and hollerin’ but; Of course, as play grew rougher, Kelly’s growls grew gruffer. That’s when I learned Kelly was capable, not as akin to a wolf but rather, as akin to a bear! One false move and he’ll bowl you over! We laughed so much!!!

I’ve always seen him that way. Strong, confident, capable, all-in despite the odds and of course…just a ton of fun!

To all who knew and loved Kelly, I offer my deepest sympathies.
