Alice M. Evans, age 85 of Juneau, died on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam. Alice was born on May 24, 1924 in Friesland, WI to William and Jennie (nee Wynsma) Wiersma. She was united in marriage to Henry Evans on April 10, 1943. She was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Juneau. She served as a Sunday School teacher and was a Consistory member for a number of years. She lived in Juneau since 1950, working at several local businesses. She was a restaurant entrepreneur for 14 years, owning and operating Alice's Restaurant.
Alice had many interests including; gardening, baking, reading and drawing. She loved art, especially Norman Rockwell. She was a member of the Dodge County Centre Historical Society and traced her genealogy back to the 1700's. She traveled extensively across the country and was joined by her sister, Evelyn, on a trip to Germany and the Netherlands. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren- often playing games, visiting local sites or taking a nature walk.
Alice is survived by her husband of 67 years, Henry; sons Milo (Diana) of St. Louis, MO, Steve of Beaver Dam, and Richard (Patti) of Juneau; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles of Waupun, Robert (Linda) of Portage, Howard (Carol) of Iron Ridge, Larry (Crystal) of Beaver Dam, and Harvey (Lana) of Columbus; and sisters, Evelyn Leystra of Cambria, Catherine Pixler of Madison, Mary Becker of Iron Ridge, Linda Neumann of Beaver Dam, Dorothy Whitrock of Beaver Dam, and Joyce Hafemeister of Beaver Dam. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Henry and William; sister Shirley Krueger; brothers-in-law, Sam Leystra, Curtis Becker and Robert Whitrock; and sister-in-law Jennie Wiersma.
A Funeral Service for Alice will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at NOON at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd in Beaver Dam with Rev. Dr. Carol Lange officiating. Visitation will also take place on Wed. April 14, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Service at NOON at the funeral home. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Friesland Cemetery in Friesland.
Memorials may be directed to Hillside Hospice in Beaver Dam or St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Juneau.
