Alvin A. Helmer, age 84 of Fox Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 1, 2011.

Alvin was born on June 2, 1927 in Columbia County to Frank and Ella (nee Fralick) Helmer. He was united in marriage to Ina Mae Lyle on June 26, 1955 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Fox Lake.

Alvin enjoying spending time with family and friends, farming, working with horses, hunting, telling stories and having good conversations.

Alvin is survived by his wife Ina Mae; his children Sherry, Terry (Lori), Diane and Joseph Helmer; his grandchildren Michelle (Gabe) Gauger, Crystal (Kyle) Kuznacic, Jennifer (Lex Cathcart) Helmer, Nena (Ben) Lotzer, Theresa Helmer, Myles Helmer, great-grandchildren Mason, Layne and Sawyer Gauger, Stone Cathcart-Helmer and Eliza Lotzer, a brother Orrie (Mabel) Helmer, sister-in-law Elizabeth Helmer; his aunts, Doris (Robert) Krinke and Avis Fralick, and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ella Helmer; brothers Ed and Delwin Helmer along with a sister Ruth (Douglas) Martin.

A Memorial Service for Alvin will be on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 3:00p.m. at the family farm located at N10791 Cty. Rd. FF in Fox Lake. Visitation will take place prior to the Service starting at 2:00p.m. and the time of fellowship will continue following the Memorial Service.
