Obituary

Anne Zimmerman (aka Anne Charpentier and Anne Herbold), 82, born Anne Carrol Forrest, died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, after a long struggle with cancer.

Born May 31, 1929, in Chicago, Anne was the eighth of 10 children. Her parents were William Alphonse Forrest of Chicago and Rosalie Amirault, originally of Nova Scotia. She and her first husband, Harold Charpentier, moved to Downers Grove, Ill., and raised their three children, Robert, Jean and Charles. She was an active, enthusiastic member of the Grove Players from the late 1950s through the mid-1960s.

Anne and her second husband, Joseph Herbold of Elk Grove Village, Ill., and father of Jason Herbold, moved to Lombard, Ill., around 1969, and in 1972 they moved to Wisconsin and bought the Kozy Rest Motel in Montello. Anne ran the motel for 12 years, then sold it and moved to Portage. She began working for WPDR/WDDC radio as a news reporter and eventually became their news director. When she left the station, she worked for the Portage Daily Register until her retirement. Anne was a doting mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She loved small theater, was an aspiring fiction writer, was involved in many service organizations in the area, helped in numerous political campaigns, and was a member of the Portage Area Community Theater.

Anne will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends in the Portage area. Anne is survived by brother Richard Forrest (Peggy) and sister Marguerite Sugden (James) of Florida, sister Ellen Boyle (William) of Illinois, sister Jean Forrest of Texas, son Robert Charpentier (Pauline) of Stockton, Calif., daughter Jean Charpentier (John Dirkes) of Chicago, son Charles Charpentier (Evelina) of Oxford, and son Jason Herbold (Mitzi) of Barre Mills. Her grandchildren are Eric Donat (Rachel) of Oxford, Joy Charpentier (Stockton, Calif.), Stephanie Brusubardis (Ernest IV, nee Charpentier, Milwaukee), Nicole, David and Jacob Charpentier (Oxford), Jenna Cadena (La Crosse), and Riana and Alyssa Herbold (Barre Mills).

Her great-grandchildren are Kasey Donat (Houston), Megan, Brice and Benjamin Donat (Oxford), and Ernest Brusubardis V (Milwaukee).

We will all miss Anne very much.
