Anthony "Tony" Bentz, age 86 of Beaver Dam, passed away from bone cancer on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Prairie Ridge Health in Columbus with his family by his side.
Visitation for Tony will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Military honors will be provided by the John E. Miller American Legion Post 146. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton.
Tony was born in the Town of Summit in Juneau County on September 20, 1936, the son of Edward and Lela (Brandt) Bentz. He was raised on the family farm in Wonewoc until his mother passed away from breast cancer when he was 8 years old. In 1949, the family moved to Waupun to farm. He and his brother, Dick, drove tractors and trailers to Waupun to begin their new journey of life. Tony graduated from Waupun High School in 1954. On November 8, 1958, he was united in marriage to Karen McDowell in Waupun. He proudly served in the National Guard 127 Infantry at Fort Lewis in Washington during the Berlin Crisis. Tony was a certified welder and taught welding classes at the Vo Tech in Beaver Dam, was a lifetime member of the Beaver Dam Conservation club and served on the board of both the Beaver Dam Lake Association and Sno-Kats of Beaver Dam. He was also known as the Mayor of McKinley Beach Road. Tony was a master plumber who worked for Joe George Plumbing and Heating, Norenberg Plumbing and Heating, and retired from the Dodge Correctional Institution. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. Tony was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and armchair quarterback. His family and friends knew him to fire multiple professional Wisconsin coaches each week following a bad game.
Tony is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Stacy "Benny" (Traci Gmeinder) and Craig (Ellen Seiler); Ellen's children, Rachel and Adam; several nieces and nephews; brother- and sister-in-law, Mac & Patty McDowell; sister-in-law, Dolores Landsinger; and further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lela; step-mother, Rose; brothers, Dick, Lee, Bill, and Lester; stepbrother, Russell Landsinger; and other relatives.
