Arlene E. Smolen, age 80 of Beaver Dam, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 27, 2013 at home.
Arlene was born on August 20, 1933 in Reedsburg, WI to Lawrence and Marguerite (nee Sandmire) All. She was united in marriage to Mike Kenevan, August Sanders and Robert Smolen. Arlene was very independent, willful and generous towards her family. She never missed sending anyone a card on their birthday or anniversary. She loved festive holiday decorations, old country singers, sewing, cooking, coloring, doing ceramics, shopping, playing organ and cracking hickory nuts.
Arlene is survived by her children, Larry (Lori) Sanders of Waupun, Marilyn Sanders and Karen Rondeau, both of Winona, MN, and Scott (Wendy) Smolen of Beaver Dam; her grandchildren, Kristie Glodowski, Kristy (Timothy) Tasker of Burnett, Becky (Steven) Vossekuil of Oakfield, Jimmy, Bobby and Allison Rondeau of Winona, MN, Nicholas Mathers, Daniel and Nevaeha Smolen, all of Beaver Dam; multiple great-grandchildren; her sisters, Shirley (Merlin) Tolsma of Fox Lake, Patricia (Ardie) Wiersma of Dalton and Nancy (Larry) Engel of Markesan. She was further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands (August & Robert), her daughter, Evelyn Laska, her brother, Gerald, her sisters, Betty Posthuma, Anita Miller, and one in infancy, Mary and other relatives.
A Memorial Service for Arlene will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Church - United Methodist, 308 Oneida St., Beaver Dam with Rev. Jeffery Nicholas officiating. A Memorial Gathering will take place prior to the service at church, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Forest Mound Cemetery, Waupun.
