Arthur "Art" J. Loterbauer, age 95, who was a life time resident of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
Art was born on July 29, 1916 to Joe and Clara (nee Hammer) Loterbauer, of Oak Grove, WI. He and his brother Richie would take the train to Beaver Dam to attend St. Peter's Catholic School. He worked on the family farm in Rolling Prairie till around age 21. His family moved to Beaver Dam after his father's death. He was united in marriage to Cora Woock of Burnett, WI on October 28, 1939 in Beaver Dam. They choose to live in Burnett, WI to be close to her family. He worked at the Malleable Iron Range Co. in Beaver Dam until he entered the Navy (Seabees) on October 22, 1942. He served in the South Pacific for 3 years. Upon his return to Beaver Dam from the Navy, he decided to try carpentry work. He apprenticed with local builder, Carl Sell of Beaver Dam. Art started his own business around 1948 which was known as, "Art Loterbauer, Builder." He constructed his own home on West St., where he and Cora lived for 20 years. They then moved to a smaller home that he also constructed. Art lived there for 40 years until his move into Charleston House in October of 2010. His career lasted a lifetime. Even at age 90, people would contact him for his professional advice. He loved being with his twin granddaughters in California and traveled to see them quite often. He was known as Uncle Art to his 1 niece, 4 nephews and their children. He was a true caregiver and as his friends passed away, he made sure their spouses were looked after. Art really loved a Friday Night Fish Fry followed by 2-3 hours of good card playing, usually sheepshead. He was a devoted member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and never missed Sunday Mass. He was always ready and willing to do odd carpentry jobs at church. Art always said about the church, "Every time you look up at those ceiling fans, remember me."
Art is survived by his only daughter, Sherry (Robert) Dunn of Santa Fe, NM; twin granddaughters, Angela (Scott) Kochiyama of San Jose, CA, Carrie Ann Nichols of Lake Forest, CA; two great-grandchildren, Mason Arthur Kochiyama, age 3, Austin James Kochiyama, age 5 months of San Jose, CA; lifetime friend and recent companion Dolores Gietzel and her family; and one first cousin, James Hammer of Beaver Dam.
Art is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cora (nee Woock) Loterbauer in 1993; brother, Richard Loterbauer in 1944; and infant son in 1942
