Carmen D. Bemis, age 94 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on Thursday, June 13, 2019.
A graveside service for Carmen will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Highland Memory Gardens, N9782 Hwy 151, Beaver Dam, at 1:00 p.m with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 146.
Carmen was born in Beaver Dam on February 5, 1925, the daughter of Edward and Delores (Ehlenfeldt) Roedl. In 1942, she graduated from Beaver Dam High School, and in 1945 she joined WAVES with the United States Navy. While with the Navy, she traveled to Nevada, California, Hawaii, Alaska, and Japan. On January 22, 1946 she was united in marriage to Lloyd "Dagwood" Bemis in Nevada. Carmen was a member of the American Legion Post 146, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies Elks, the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, a leader of the Navy Wives, as well as past president of the Sunset Hills Ladies Golf, the Chambermaids, and the Beaver Dam Bowling Association. She worked at Beaver Park Interiors, Sunset Hills, and China Palace, and she also operated the Fox Lake Golf Club with her husband. In her free time, Carmen enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading, and playing cards with friends. She had fun going to the casinos and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Carmen is survived by her children, John (Peggy) Bemis of Juneau, and Lizabeth "Nooney" Bemis of Beaver Dam; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard "Lenny" Roedl of Beaver Dam; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd "Dagwood"; son, Joey Bemis; sister-in-law Audrey Roedl; and other relatives.
