Obituary

Carol L. Erdman, age 79 of Beaver Dam, died peacefully on Friday, January 8, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Beaver Dam.

Carol Lou Helbing was born on September 11, 1930 in Beaver Dam to Elmer and Mae (nee Sutton) Helbing. She was a member of Trinity Church – United Methodist in Beaver Dam, having received infant baptism, followed later by receiving full membership to the then Methodist Church in 1942. Carol attended Beaver Dam public elementary and high schools, graduating from Beaver Dam High School in 1948. On November 10, 1950 she was united in marriage to Leon Erdman in Dubuque, Iowa. Carol's working career began at Monarch Range as a central switch board operator, which was then followed by working in the personnel department at John Deere in Horicon, the office manager for O.L. Vaughn Construction and in the admitting department of St. Joseph's Hospital. She also worked at Green Giant and Green Valley Enterprises. Carol was able to accomplish all of this while raising four children, building five new homes and moving seven times. She was a caring, supportive and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Leon of Beaver Dam; her four children, Jeffri (Jane) Erdman of Champlin, MN, Mari Jill (Randall) Bussian, Juli (Ron) Rupp, both of DeForest, Jonathan (Diane) Erdman of Kennesaw, GA; seven grandchildren, Jenifer (Gabe) Knobeloch of Orlando, FL, Paul (Jill) Erdman of London, England, Scott Erdman of Coon Rapids, MN, Lisa Bussian of North Hollywood, CA, Ryan and Aaron Rupp of DeForest and Grace Erdman of Kennesaw, GA; her sister; Inez Helbing of Juneau and two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Helbing and Selma Nelson, both of Beaver Dam. Carol is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Violet Asmus; and her four brothers, Merrill, Howard, Donald and Alfred Helbing.


A Visitation for Carol will be on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd. in Beaver Dam. A Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jeffrey Nicholas officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow at Cornerstone and inurnment will take place at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
