Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Kenneth Ziebell, age 69 of Markesan passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital – Madison after a two-week long tough fight.

A Celebration of Chuck's Life will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 1:30 until 4:30 PM at Soldiers & Sailors Park in Markesan.

Chuck was born on March 28, 1955, in Waupun to Kenneth and Doris (McCallum) Ziebell. He graduated from Waupun High School in 1973 and on July 12, 1986, he married Lelia Walker.

Chuck held a life-long love of farming, fast cars, and antique machinery. He worked hard his whole life, beginning with feeding calves at the age of 8 for the Pinkertons near Ladoga. As a young man he worked for local farmers, doing milking, fieldwork and mechanic work. He went on to drive truck for the majority of the rest of his working life mixed with stints as a diesel mechanic. He finished his career driving milk truck for Matt Boelter Milk Hauling, retiring in 2020.

Fast cars were his life in his years as a young single man as he practiced his driving skills on the back roads of Fond du Lac County with like-minded cohorts. When he met Lelia, he was well into his tractor pulling era. He started with mini-rods, moved to antique tractor pulling with his Oliver 80 and now with his International 460. At home, he loved to cook great food and had become an extraordinary pellet smoker chef. But above all Chuck loved his family, especially his Madden who called him Grandpa-Papa.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Lelia Ziebell of Markesan, son Samuel (Nicole) Ziebell of Montello, daughter Caitlin (Cody) Kerr of West Bend, and sister Dianna Zills of Moyie Springs Idaho. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Madden Nicole Ziebell, many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sister-in-law Laura (Roy) Brown of Satanta Kansas, brother-in-law Eldon Guy (Rhonda) Walker of Elizabeth Colorado, along with lots more family and friends.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Doris (McCallum) Ziebell and brother-in-law Wayne Zills.

The family of Chuck would like to put out a very BIG Thank You to the staff at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Madison for their compassionate and boundless care they provided for Chuck. Thank you to the Van Ruiswjk family for their love and support also. A memorial has been set up for the Southern Green Lake Ambulance in Markesan, Wisconsin.
