Cornelius "Cornie" Katsma, age 95 of Randolph, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 8th, 2025 after a 2 week stay at Randolph Health Services and Assisted Living in Randolph.
Visitation for Cornie will take place on Monday, September 15, 2025 at MarshView Ministries, 103 S. Cedar St., Horicon, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:00 p.m. Private family burial will take place at Randolph Cemetery.
Cornie was born on May 12, 1930 to Dewey and Jenny (Smedema-Kok) Katsma in the Township of Randolph. He attended Randolph Christian Grade School in East Friesland and graduated from Randolph High School.
Cornie married Helen Ruth Swaagman on July 5th, 1951 at First Randolph Christian Reformed Church of East Friesland where Rev. Bernard Haan officiated the ceremony.
Cornie proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia where he served in the military police as a clerk. He enjoyed being a part of the Cambria American Legion Post 401 and served as an Honor Guard for number of funerals. Cornie worked for Randolph Concrete Products, and for a very short time he worked in the Chicago area as a garbage collector. Cornie spent most of his working career as dispatcher and manager of Randolph Ready-Mix Company, Four X Corporation and later Carew Concrete where he managed both the Randolph and Waupun concrete operations. After retiring, he drove bus for Randolph School District and delivered meals for Fiel's Catering delivering meals for elderly who were mostly younger than him.
His legacy is not his various careers, but his family and the quiet impact that he made on numerous people that he knew throughout his life.
Cornie and his wife Helen attended and served in Second Randolph Christian Reformed Church for many years where Cornie served on the Council and sang in the choir. He currently was a member of MarshView Ministries CRC of Horicon since 1998, where he participated in the life of the congregation in many areas and served as a role model of faith and grace to many. His gentle spirit and caring nature will be greatly missed by many who knew him.
Cornie enjoyed being on the lake fishing. In his later years enjoyed getting together with the guys to shoot pool and throw horseshoes. He spent time going on trips with the SonShine Travel and Tours and enjoyed many meals and outings with his sister, Grace Homan, for which his family are very grateful.
Cornie is survived by two daughters, Loretta (Tom) Oft , Saxon, WI, and Etta Kay, (Rob) Uzzle, Marshall, MI; two sons, Steven (Donna) Katsma, Randolph and David (Mari Lynne) Katsma, Juneau; twelve grandchildren, Amy (Paul) Pucker, Tonia (Aaron) Hartwig, Rebecca Ciske , Justin (Jaya) Katsma, Melissa (Kevin) Bills, Noah (Mackenzie) Katsma, Chayah, (Eric) Wilbers, Chiyel (Michael) Gaffney, Adriyel (Gabriel) Groves, Michaiah Katsma and Nachalah Katsma, Brooke Uzzle Balal Darwich; 22 great grandchildren; two sisters, Grace (Arnie) Homan and Barbara (Dirk) Visser; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Cornie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; brothers, Clarence, John, Hans and Sam; sister, Tina Burmania; and other relatives.
