Obituary

Danny M. Steffen, age 77 of Manchester, was called home to his Lord on Tuesday, August 8th at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison.

A memorial gathering for Danny will take place on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Holy Family Parish), 41 St. Joseph St., Markesan from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Manchester Cemetery (#1). A luncheon will follow the burial at the Manchester Rod & Gun Club.

Danny was born December 3, 1945 in Sleepy Eye, MN to Cholice (nee Bertrand) and Bernard (Red) Steffen.  His family relocated to Wisconsin in 1957, and he graduated from Markesan High School in 1964.  He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country, attaining the rank of Sergeant, until 1969.

Above all else, Danny was a proud American.  He was a skilled tradesman who worked for over forty years as a welder for Michels Corporation and Arby Construction.  He took great pride in his trade and was often the go-to for special welding projects from family and friends. In addition, Danny was the type of man who could fix anything and knew everything, all you had to do was ask because he'd gladly tell you that if he didn't know the answer, his brother definitely did.  He had a love of Harley Davidson motorcycles, of which he owned several throughout this life.  He spent many weekends with friends cruising the countryside and attending various biker events.  Additionally, he enjoyed many other activities including watching Nascar, hunting for da turty pointer, ice racing #50 on Fox Lake, and in his later years, driving his classic cars.

Danny is survived by his four children; Travis (Kathy) Steffen of Markesan, Sandie Quade of Markesan, Danielle (Mark) Plagenz of Kingston and David (Christine) Steffen of Markesan; grandchildren, Katie (John) Warnke, Gunnar (Autumn) Steffen, Justice Steffen, Jordan (Olivia) Quade, McKinzie (Mike) Panzer, Dylan Quade, Denton (Emma) Plagenz, Bryce (Macy Schendel) Plagenz, Cayden Plagenz, Isaiah Steffen and Evad Steffen; great grandchildren, Damian and Marylee; brothers Pat (Diana) Steffen of Stevens Point and Tom (Rose) Steffen of Oshkosh; and many nieces and nephews.

He is further survived by his significant other, Barb Boelter of Manchester and her children; Todd (Sara) Boelter of Manchester and Tonya (Dave) Edwards of Luxemburg; grandchildren Mattison (and her bulldog, Mabel, of whom he was especially fond of), Gavin and Lennox Boelter.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Bernard and Cholice, and his brother Steve.
