David C. Meier "Mayor Meier", age 57 of Beaver Dam, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at his home.
David was born at the Beaver Dam Lutheran Hospital to Harry E. and Mary (nee Groling) Meier. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1973 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He worked at K&L Services in Beaver Dam for nearly 30 years.
David's greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. He loved bowling, camping and going to Brewer games with his boys. He also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and NASCAR races. He was very social, enjoyed being around people and was well-known for being the godfather of the neighbor-"Hood". Whether coming or going, hugs were definitely a must for David. He always lived life in the moment and his favorite quote sums him up well:
"It's not the days in your life, it's the life in your days that count ".
David is survived by his beloved companion of 33 years, Cindy Hafenstein of Beaver Dam; his three children, Amy Meier of Randolph, Stacey (Jim) Steger of Beaver Dam and Christopher (Stephanie) Meier of Beaver Dam; seven grandchildren, Briann, Zachary, Nolan, Gavin, Ava, Nicholas and Natalie; his mother, Mary Meier of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Helen (Mike) Voit of Illinois and Donna (Denise Strahm) Meier of Beaver Dam; Cindy's mother, Daisy Hafenstein of Beaver Dam; Cindy's sisters, Penny (Richard) Boschaert and Nancy (Charles) Diels, both of Beaver Dam and Cindy's sister-in-law, Leann Hafenstein of Fox Lake.
David was preceded in death by his father, Harry Meier; his grandparents; Cindy's father, Roy Hafenstein; Cindy's brother, Jeff Hafenstein and other relatives.
A Funeral Service for David will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd. in Beaver Dam with Rev. Dr. Mark Molldrem officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Cornerstone and also on Saturday prior to the service at Cornerstone, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Highland Memory Gardens, Town of Trenton, with graveside military honors. A luncheon will then be served back at Cornerstone.
