David "Dave" J. Breyer, age 61 of Fox Lake, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 at V.A. Hospital in Madison after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
David was born on November 7, 1950 in Columbus to Martin and Barbara (nee Nickel) Breyer. He graduated from Columbus High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam, he later served in the United States Navy, National Guard and Army Reserves. David worked as a journeyman electrician and later a master electrician for Union 494 of Milwaukee. On July 16, 1988 he was united in marriage to Ruth Schimmel at the Fox Lake Presbyterian Church. He loved gardening, doing yard work, taking his grandchildren on vacation every year and spending time with his dog, Charlie. He was also a member of Fox Lake American Legion Post #521. David wore his heart on his sleeve and was a very giving man, always putting others first.
David will be dearly missed by his wife, Ruth of Fox Lake; his daughters, Mari Russell of Beaver Dam, Melissa (Adam Kutzke) Schreiner of Beaver Dam, Carleen (Ben) Van Buren of Waupun, Sarah (Matt Klabacka) Rogers of Cottage Grove; his beloved grandchildren, Mercedes and Savannah Schreiner and Chase Kullas. In addition, he is also survived by Ethan Kutzke, Kaden and Leah Klabacka, whom he loved as if they were his grandchildren; his mother, Barbara Schulze of Columbus; three sisters, Linda (Delwood) Madsen, Cathy (Stuart) Benzine, and Debbie (Rick) Schilling, all of Columbus; one brother, James (Mary Jane) Lau of Beaver Dam, his step-mother, Sharon Breyer of Rio and two nieces that he loved very much, Amy (Kevin) Schraufnagel and Tammy (Craig Wakeman) Vick. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Martin, two uncles, one aunt, a great aunt, Catherine and his beloved dog, Charlie.
A Funeral Service for David will take place on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd in Beaver Dam. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery with a luncheon to follow back at Cornerstone. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at Cornerstone and also on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Service at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone.
