Obituary

David "Dave" Herbert Westphal, age 81, passed away with family by his side at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown on Friday, February 7, 2025.

A visitation for Dave will be held at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam, on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Chaplain Jane Gehler officiating. Burial will take place at Lowell Cemetery.

Dave was born on November 23, 1943, in Columbus, WI, to Alex and Helen (Luckow) Westphal. In his younger years, he spent much of his time working on the family farm. On February 27, 1965, he married Phyliss Frederick at St. John's Lutheran Church in Juneau. After marriage, Dave spent much of his life on the road as a semi-truck driver, first for Ratcliff Tow Low and later for Zenith Tech until his retirement. He was always proud to share stories of his many trips delivering building materials for the Harbor Bridge project in Milwaukee during the 1970s. When he wasn't working, Dave enjoyed fishing, bowling, and playing cards.

After retirement, he took on his favorite role—being a grandpa. He could often be found building birdhouses, fueling up the go-kart, or riding four-wheelers with his grandchildren. Attending their sporting events was always a top priority, though he was just as happy watching a Badger, Brewer, or Packer game. He cherished traveling the world with his family, but his favorite pastime was relaxing in his chair with one of his faithful four-legged friends, an old-fashioned in hand, dozing off while watching a game show.

Dave is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyliss Westphal; daughters, Sonya (Donald Jr.) Vehlow and Angela (Kevin Schneider) Westphal; grandchildren, Taylor (Brianne) Boyd and Trenna (Ryan) Schock; step-grandchildren, Ben (Megan Sopper) Vehlow and Taylor (Joey Lauth) Vehlow; brothers, Fredrick "Fritz" (Janet) Westphal and Gary Westphal; sister, Sharon Westphal; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Howard (Eileen) Westphal; and other beloved relatives and friends.
