Rev. David E. Kastenschmidt, age 70 of Kingston, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 7, 2013 at his home.
Rev. Kastenschmidt was born on October 14, 1942 in La Crosse, WI to Elmer and Evelyn (nee Mundstock) Kastenschmidt. He went to First Lutheran Grade School in La Crosse, Luther Prep High School and Northwestern College, both in Watertown and graduated from the Seminary at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Mequon. On August 12, 1967 he was united in marriage to Betty Riebe in Richwood, WI. Rev. Kastenschmidt accepted his first call to the joint parish of Mount Olive and Bethany Lutheran Churches in Graceville, MN. In 1971, he and his family moved to Kingston, where he served as the Pastor at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church and also St. John's Ev.Lutheran Church in Salemville, until his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed camping with his family, reading, playing cards with his children, bowling, traveling, golfing, and being with his beloved dog, Pretzel. Rev. Kastenschmidt cherished all of the time he spent with his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events. He had a strong passion and true love for Christ and his congregations.
Rev. Kastenschmidt is survived by his wife, Betty of Kingston; children, Ruth (David) Schwandt of Markesan, Karl (Nancy) Kastenschmidt of Pardeeville and Edie (fiancé Shane Martwick) Kastenschmidt of Wauwautosa; grandchildren, Nina, Evan and Christian Schwandt, James Ford, Jessica Kastenschmidt, Braydon and Elicia Schoeffling. He is further survived by his brother, Walt (Jerri) Kastenschmidt of Georgia, his mother-in-law, Ruth May of Watertown, two brothers-in-law, Ken (Darlene) May of Lowell and Wayne (Joann) May of Watertown, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and other relatives.
A Funeral Service for Rev. Kastenschmidt will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, 316 Vine St. in Kingston with Revs. Edward Frey and Rodney Dietsche officiating. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan and also on Thursday prior to the service at church, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Salemville Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Manchester.
