Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Gardens next to his beloved wife.
David was born on April 27,1937 in Milwaukee, WI. He was raised in Beaver Dam, WI where he spent the majority of his life. Dave's early days were spent in the loving home of his maternal grandparents surrounded by family members and loved ones who were pleased to love and care for him until his mother met Leroy Broome when Dave was 10 years old. Leroy and Lucille married and gave him three wonderful siblings to love and help care for as he was by his extended family in his early years. He remains very close to them to this day.
Dave attended St. Peter's Catholic school from kindergarten through his freshman year and moved on to Beaver Dam Senior High School for the remainder of his school career, where he excelled and participated in many sports but was particularly proud of the part he played on the football team, joining his teammates in winning the Conference Championships in both 1954 and 1955. He kept busy in school not only with his sports and studies, but also being active in the Army National Guard. Post High School Graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and also became qualified as a member of the SeeBees. He traveled to many locations abroad and often spoke fondly of his time there.
Dave moved back to Beaver Dam after his time in the military, where he met the love of his life, Judy Anna Steinbach; they wed on September 14,1962. In 1969 they proudly welcomed their first daughter Kelly Ann Broome and in 1971, their second daughter, Tracy Lynn Broome. As a family they enjoyed many trips together as well as lots of summer vacations at the Broome family cottage where they built many wonderful memories, Dave instilled a great love of nature and the outdoors to his children which they still appreciate to this day and have been passed down to his grandchildren as well.
Dave worked several careers including Metalfab, Waupun Correctional Institution and the Beaver Dam Wastewater treatment plant, where he retired from in 1999. He retired a bit early to care for his wife Judy, who was suffering from early onset Alzheimer's, until the Lord took her home on December 10, 2008. He missed her every day.
Dave loved watching sports especially when one of his family members or grandchildren were involved, where he passionately cheered them on! He was an enthusiastic Badger fan and followed all the professional Wisconsin teams loyally. Dave loved hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and long drives on country backroads.
In 2002 Dave met his special friend Clarice Gensch and they have been inseparable since! Claire and Dave have had many adventures together along with her sons and their families, they all included Dave into their lives and treated him like family, something he (and his family) were humbly grateful for. Their love and attention saw him through some difficult times and some very joyous ones as well, we are so grateful to them all.
The family would like to express their great appreciation to Hillside Manor Hospice for their tireless efforts in his care, and their compassion and understanding to Dave and all who love him. You are all a blessing.
Dave is survived by his daughters, Kelly Broome (Tony Limberg) and Tracy Caves (Nathan); four grandchildren, Zachary Caves (Victoria), Shani Bethke (Jonathan), Brenna Caves, and Emelia (Emmy) Caves. His first great grandchild is due in August, 2024 to Shani and Jonathan Bethke. He is further survived by his siblings, Gary (Peggy) Broome, Michael (Debra) Broome, Janice (Randy) Hirsig, and Terry (Carleen) Orr. Dave is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Paul Steinbach, Robert (Mike) Steinbach and his wife Laura, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy (2008); his parents, Lucille (1996) and LeRoy Broome (1982), and many more loved ones and friends. Dave will be greatly missed.
