Obituary

Delmar A. Winning, age 80 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024 after a short battle with cancer.

Visitation for Delmar will take place on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, 300 West St., Beaver Dam from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, town of Trenton, with military honors provided by the Marine Corps League #359 of Beaver Dam.

He was born on May 3, 1944 in Kenmare, North Dakota to Delmar F. and Gertrude L. (Tafelmeyer) Winning. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1962 and attended Platteville University from 1962 – 1965 when he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1969. On December 18, 1965 he married Jane (Gillingham) Winning at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Beaver Dam. In February of 1969 he started working at Green Valley Enterprises as a foreman, and later became plant manager. He also worked at various other places, including John Deere, the Dodge County Co-op, and Metal Solutions. At present, he was employed as transportation manager at Opportunities Inc. of Beaver Dam. He was an active member of St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church of Beaver Dam, having served as an elder, on church council, and as head usher. Also he was an active member of the Marine Corps League #359 of Beaver Dam, having served as Commandant, and Sgt. at Arms. He was a trustee at Highland Memory Gardens, serving as secretary. Over the years he enjoyed camping, wilderness canoeing, archery, hunting, time at the cabin, and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane; two sons, Steven (Christine) Winning of Waupun and Brian Winning of Beaver Dam; five granddaughters, Britney Winning of Beaver Dam, Taylor (Ryan) Kostick of Waupun, Mackenzie (Noah) Mulder of Waupun; Caitlyn (Christopher) Ehlts of Waupun, and Briann Winning of Irving, Texas. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Quinten, Parker, Emma, Ruby, Millie, Silas, Dax, and Archer; plus his four sisters, Phyllis (Albert) Frankenstein of Mukwonago, Kathy (John) Ackerman of Oregon, WI, Ginny (Bob) Koch of Beaver Dam, Donna Winning of Markesan, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Gertrude Winning; his in-laws, Jeanne and Wayne Gillingham; brother-in-law, A.J. Gillingham; and great-granddaughter, Hazel Mulder.
