Donald John Dohmann, 88, of Beaver Dam, WI was called to his heavenly home on March 30, 2012 at the BDCH Hillside Manor where he has resided since January, 2012 due to a lingering illness following a stroke in May of 2010.

He was born in Lowell, WI on December 11, 1923 to John and Verna (Weidman) Dohmann. He was married to Beverly Belling of Appleton, WI on August 14, 1948. Don was a graduate of Beaver Dam High School class of 1942. Following graduation, he proudly served his country for three years during WWII in the 491st Bomber Squadron based in England.

Upon his release from the Army, he enrolled in the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, WI, where he majored in Advertising/Art and minored in Portraiture, a field that he loved since childhood. It was here that he met the love of his life who was also a student at the school. Don completed his academic work at Marquette University and UW-Milwaukee. After receiving his BFA degree, he continued his post-graduate studies at UW-Madison and Notre Dame. During this time he taught Portraiture and further developed his advertising and art skills at a major studio in Milwaukee until he accepted the position as National Advertising and Art Director for the Monarch Range Company of Beaver Dam. He remained at this position for 33 years. During his career at Monarch, he received numerous awards for his Advertising/Art work and in 1965 was named one of the "Advertising Men of the Year" by International Business/Professional Advertising Association. A book on "Advertising Techniques" written by Dohmann was published in the 1960's.

Don was a faithful member of First Ev. Lutheran Church for almost 60 years, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, an usher, church council member and chaired numerous committees. Don was on the Board of Directors for the International Business/Professional Advertising Association, Milwaukee Chapter, where he had the honor of being invited to dine with the President of the United States, Richard Nixon. He was a Director of Old Hickory Country Club and the Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce. He was also a former member of the Beaver Dam Kiwanis Club and served as Chaplin for the Beaver Dam American Legion Post #146. He was a past Publicity Chairman for the Dodge Country Republican Party and Director for the Dodge County Taxpayers Alliance. Don was a Master Mason and has been a member of the Beaver Dam Area Arts Association since it began.

In 1984, Dohmann left the Monarch Range Company and opened his own Advertising and Art Studio in his home, where he served as an advertising consultant to companies in Wisconsin and Michigan. His special love of the Fine Arts, however, including paintings of loved ones and things loved in oil and pastels, held the highest priority. His works have been displayed in several galleries, corporate offices, and homes throughout the United States.

Don was a devoted and loving family man - a gentle man and a gentleman. He taught his family to love the outdoors and always observe the beauty around them, as he did in his paintings. He loved hunting, fishing and golf, which he enjoyed with his family, as well as being an avid Packer Backer and Brewers Fan. While in college, he played First base for the Rock River Baseball League and is listed on their Hall of Fame. Don was also a traveler, who with his family, visited countries around the world.

Don is survived by his wife, Beverly; his daughter, Bonnie (Roland) Moll of Beaver Dam; his sons, Steven of Beaver Dam, and David (Robin) Dohmann of Spicer MN; his grandchildren, Robert Goes, Joshua Goes, Ryan Moll, Derrick Dohmann, MacKenzie Dohmann; and his great-grandson, Scott Goes; his sister-in-law, Alice (Dr. C. William) Dohmann of Lowell; niece, Kelly (Steven) Penna of Anaheim, CA; and nephews, Paul (Maureen) Dohmann and Michael (Doreen) Dohmann, both of Anaheim, CA, as well as many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Don's life will take place 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 9, 2012 at First Ev. Lutheran Church, 311 W. Mackie St., Beaver Dam with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Mark Jensen will be officiating. A luncheon for family and guests will follow the service at Old Hickory Country Club. Memorials can be directed to First Ev. Lutheran Church Educational Fund, the BDCH Hillside Manor Activities Fund, or the Beaver Dam Arts Association.
