Dorothy C. McCullough, 91, of Waupun, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Veteran’s Hospital Hospice Center in Madison.
Dorothy was born May 29, 1921 in Canton, OH the daughter of Joe and Mamie (Oberleiter) Carmichael. Dorothy graduated from Pardeeville High School and was a drill sergeant in the Women’s Army Corps., serving from February 1944 to September 1946. On June 25, 1949 she was united in marriage to Roy McCullough at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun. Dorothy spent many years working as a linotype operator for Waupun Leader News, retiring in 1978. Dorothy became a faithful volunteer at the Veteran’s Hospital in Madison and contributed more than 2000 hours assisting other veterans and hospital employees. She loved the interaction with people and knowing that she could make a difference in many of their lives. Her good nature and sense of humor brought joy to all she met. Dorothy was a member of Waupun United Methodist Church where she developed close friendships with many members. She cherished their love and concern for her.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Les (Mary) McCullough of Waupun, and Joe (Sue) McCullough of Waupun; her daughter, Susan (Darwin) Berndt of rural Burnett; her grandchildren, Becky Berndt of Appleton, Angela (Dave) Engebregtsen of Waupun, Aaron (Becky) McCullough of Crivitz, and Joshua McCullough of Madison; her great-grandchildren, Jonathan Duer, Kimberly Duer, Tabitha Sass, McKenzie Engebregtsen, Caleb McCullough, and Corrinne McCullough; her sister, Marge Alderks of Pennsylvania; her brother-in-law, Severyn Dykstra of Pardeeville; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 1972; her parents; four sisters; two brothers; and an infant granddaughter, April McCullough.
Visitation:
Friends and relatives may call on the family on Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Services:
Funeral services for Dorothy C. McCullough will be held Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Waupun United Methodist Church with Rev. J.D. McCarty officiating.
Burial:
Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun where American Legion Post 210 of Waupun will provide military honors.
