Douglas Sanborn Whyte, age 76, of Beaver Dam, died on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Sylvan Crossings in Beaver Dam.
Douglas was born on September 16, 1931 to Arthur J. and Jeane (nee Sanborn) at Beverly Hospital in Beverly, MA. He attended Topsfield grade school, Perkins Row grade school and Prides Crossing High School in Beverly, MA. graduating in 1949. Douglas attended Boston University as a French major and an Education minor graduating in 1953. He served his country in the United States Army at Ft. Dix in New Jersey and later in Nuremberg, Germany.
After returning from the service, he taught at several schools on the East Coast. In 1965 he received his Master's Degree in French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. From 1965 to 1973 he was a Professor at Milton College teaching English and French.
In 1974 he took his skills abroad to educate people at Lingnan College in Hong Kong where he was the Head of the Department of English and the Chairman of the Arts Faculty. He also taught at Zhongshan University in China and Phrom Renh and Siem Remp in Cambodia where he taught English. In 1998 he built a house on Beaver Dam Lake and has lived here since. Douglas was a member of Trinity Church – United Methodist in Beaver Dam where he was very active in the choir and also a member of the Beaver Dam Oratorio.
Douglas is survived by a brother Donald A. Whyte of NewYork and a sister in law Susan Whyte of Vermont. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Douglas is preceded in death by his Parents and a brother Bruce A. Whyte.
A Memorial Service for Douglas will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 2:00p.m. at the home of Bill Jambrek at W9143 S. Sunset Point Rd. in Beaver Dam.
