Obituary

Duane Dennis Harmsen, age 68 of Waupun, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison.

Duane was born on January 5, 1947 in Waupun, the son of Henry and Jeanette (Vander Bosch) Harmsen. He proudly enlisted and served his country in the United States Marines from 1964-68, serving overseas during the Vietnam War from 1966-67. On December 22, 1966, he was united in marriage to Susan Campbell at First Reformed Church in Waupun. He worked at John Deere Horicon Works for 30 years.

Duane was an avid fisherman and enjoyed deer hunting, camping throughout Wisconsin, playing cards and golfing. He treasured the time he spent with his family and friends and enjoyed his travels to Tucson, AZ. Duane was a proud member of the American Legion Post 210 and VFW Post 6709 in Waupun.

Duane is survived by his wife, Susan of Waupun; his daughters, Tracy (John) Mecklenberg and Melissa Harmsen; grandchildren, Andrew (Jessica) Mecklenberg, Danielle (Adam Pulda) Mecklenberg; great-grandchildren, Kylie Mecklenberg, Owen Pulda and another expected in November. He is further survived by his niece, Terri (Byron) Streekstra, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Delores Gruhn.

In honoring Duane's wishes, a private service will be held to celebrate his life.
