Duane H. "Dewey" Kuehl, age 69 of Beaver Dam, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 21, 2010 at University Hospital in Madison. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a good friend to many. He will be truly missed.
Dewey was born on September 7, 1940 in Beaver Dam to Mary Ann (Davis) and George Kuehl. On August 16, 1958 he married Patricia C. McTiernan and was blessed with 6 children. Throughout his life Dewey worked as a skilled welder at Monarch, Metalfab, John Deere, Metalcraft and for his friend Danny Parish at the Blacksmith Shop. In his spare time, Dewey was the handyman's handyman and could build or fix anything he put his mind to. Finishing those projects was sometimes another story. Whenever Dewey had a hammer or saw in his hand, the finished project was always a work of art. He taught all his children how to build a house when his health kept him from a hammer. He used to say, "If it doesn't have flaws, it doesn't have character", and let me tell you that house had plenty of character. When he wasn't welding or building something, he enjoyed camping with his family, trapshooting, archery, hunting on Tim's land, fishing with his best friend Dennis, dropping a buck at the casino, catching the races or just taking a drive with his wife and dogs. He lived his life on his terms as it was either "his way or the highway". On January 12, 2001 he married his best friend Colleen Weber and together they raised 3 precious dogs; Buddy, Holly and Peanut who will miss their banana nights with Daddy.
Dewey is survived by his loving wife Colleen, his daughters, Kim (Casey) Wells, Karri (Tim) Felton, Kristina (Kerry) Mahal, Kaye Kuehl, Koreen (Bart) Dowd, and his only son, Kenn Kuehl. He is further survived his grandchildren & great grandchildren, Todd (Tammy) Sether & Kennedy and Rylan, Ben (Alicia) Sether & Hailey and Matthew, Brian Cook & Tori Cook, Erika (fiancée Tim Moen) Felton, Kierra Mahal, Kyler Pierce, Bethany Dickman & JaVon Webster, Patti Dickman, and Karson Kuehl. He was expecting his 7th great grandchild this summer. Dewey is also survived by the mother of his children, Pat, his step-children, Calvin (Kim), Rena, Garret (Angie), Zach (Sharon), and Hayley (Shawn), his step-grandchildren, Shannon, Sabrina, Jess, Clayton, Autumn, Levi, Mya, Cody, Erika, & Sophie, along with aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson Kolin Mahal.
Gone yet not forgotten,
although we are apart,
your spirit lives within us,
forever in our hearts.
