Obituary

Emerson Edwin Kellom, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend,
passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 24, 2012 in the same room where he was born on the family farm in Beaver Dam.

Emerson was born on February 7, 1919 to Edwin and Mable (nee Ganske) Kellom. A graduate of Beaver Dam High School, he attended the University of Wisconsin Agriculture Short Course, after which he returned to Beaver Dam and made farming his career. In 1944, he married Verna Glaesman of Markesan, and together they operated a successful farm and raised a family. Emerson and Verna loved to travel and together traveled much of the United States.

Emerson had an unfaltering commitment to his community and fellow man. He was a lifelong member of Grace Presbyterian Church and also a 55 year member of the Beaver Dam Kiwanis Club, receiving the George Hixson Fellowship Award in 1998. He was elected to serve on the Beaver Dam School Board for many years, serving as president from 1981-82. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Masonic Lodge, member of the Dodge County Fair Board and the 2003 recipient of the Friend of Education Award for the Beaver Dam Unified School District. He was recognized for meritorious service to 4-H in 1983, as an honorary chapter farmer of FFA, and as Member of the Year at Old Hickory Golf Club in 1996.

Emerson is survived by his loving wife, Verna of Beaver Dam; their children, Sherron (Harold) Challis of Austin, TX, Gar (Kolleen) Kellom of St. Cloud, MN, and Kay (Tim) Hansen of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, Sarah Walls, Meagan, Guthrie and Tocher Kellom; his great-grandchildren, Sam Stovall, Emmerson, Kohen and Makenzie Kellom; and his two sisters, Harriett Connor and Winogene McIntyre. He is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Funeral Service for Emerson
will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 215 Gould St., Beaver Dam with Rev. Dee Talley officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, July 27, 2012 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd, Beaver Dam, with a Masonic Service to be held at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church, beginning at 10:00 a.m.. Following the service, burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam, and a luncheon will be served back at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Emerson's name may be made to Angels on Earth Homecare or Grace Presbyterian Church.
