Esther K. Washington, age 94 of Beaver Dam, died peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.


The former Esther Marie Kucik was born on July 2, 1915, in Chicago, IL to Edmund and Marie Kucik. She graduated from high school in Bangor, MI, attended business college in the city of Chicago and worked at the Sunshine Biscuit Company. Esther was united in marriage to Richard C. Washington on March 19, 1938, in Des Plaines, IL. She spent her early married life on a dairy farm in Pecatonica, IL, and later moved to Conyers, GA.
Esther was first and foremost a wife and mother supporting her daughters' activities, volunteering at school, and serving as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

In October, 1995, Esther moved to Beaver Dam from Mundelein,Il and later to Stone Terrace Retirement Living Center in May, 1996. She was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, the Catholic Women's organization, served on the Stone Terrace Tenant Council, was a member of the Partners of Beaver Dam Community Hospital and had been a volunteer at Hillside Manor Nursing Home.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Jim) Flynn, Beaver Dam; Mary (Dr. Sheldon) Carr, Castle Rock, CO; six grandchildren, Kathy (Ed Koziboski) Flynn Chicago, IL; Tricia (Tom) Bohlander, Las Vegas, NV; Sharon Pszanka, Leslie (Scott) Winston, Darin (Becky) Carr, and Aimee (Rob) Lomas all of the Denver, CO area; thirteen great-grandchildren, Joe, Frances, Nicholas, Alex, Madison, Melana, Matthew, Marley, Amanda, Avery, Austin, Blake and Brady who were all much loved by her; and her very special friend, Earl Zieman. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Kay Nissen, a niece and nephew, Candy (Chris) Kalischefski, Curt (Mary) Kucik and their daughter, Kelsey, and several cousins, all of Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, and her brother, Edmund M. Kucik, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 from 4-6 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Service, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam and also on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 511 S. Spring St., Beaver Dam with Fr. Tony Klink officiating. A Luncheon will immediately follow the Mass at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Service.
Interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
