Eugene "Gene" R. Machkovitz, age 88 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Prairie Ridge in Beaver Dam.

Gene was born May 2, 1924 in Beaver Dam to Marion and Cecelia (nee Sommers) Machkovitz. He served his country in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 in Japan and the Philippines. On November 7, 1953 Gene was united in marriage to Shirley Westphal at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
Gene had a love for many hobbies. He enjoyed painting, story-telling, going for drives, reading, boating and swimming. Most of all he loved cars whether they were antique or modern. He was very good working with his hands and used those talents in many ways throughout his life.

Gene is survived by his wife Shirley of Beaver Dam; his children, Randy (Rhea) Machkovitz of Horicon, Cheryl (James) Garin of Knoxville, TN; two grandchildren, Tom (Tyrene) and Shaawn (Eric), three great-grandchildren; his siblings, Ruth Ferries, Eileen (Dean) Milton, Rosemary ( Dave) Hoefs and Lois (Bob) Cramer. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, James Machkovitz and Gloria Loeck.

A Memorial gathering for Gene will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2012 from 1-4 p.m. in the community room at 212 Seippel Blvd in Beaver Dam.
