Obituary

Fern R. Engel, age 98, passed away on Monday, Oct. 26, 2020, at Randolph Health Services due to Covid-19.

She was born July 19, 1922, in the Township of Manchester, the daughter of Erwin & Alma Schatz. She became a child of God through baptism on August 20, 1922, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Salemville.  Fern was confirmed in faith on May 9, 1937, by T.W. Redlin. She was united in marriage to Lester G. Engel on September 14, 1940, in Kingston. Fern was a housewife, mother, farmer's wife, grandmother, great grandmother and was blessed to be a great great grandmother. She worked at Rockwell and PMI, as well as being a school bus driver and senior transportation driver for 17 years each, and a Meals on Wheels driver. She mowed three cemeteries, served on several county boards, volunteered at the Food Pantry, and was a member of the Ladies Aid and Association for the Mentally Challenged. She loved spending time with her family, listening to Lester play his accordion, and attend Senior Center activities.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Nancy) Engel, Markesan; Beverly Marwitz, Markesan; Carol Walker, Kingston; Lee (Wanda) Engel, Markesan; Richard Engel, Beaver Dam; Lyle Engel, Manchester and Randy (Sheila) Engel, Brandon; sister, Irene Walker; 24 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Blair and Aubrey Rose, and 1 step-great-great-grandchild, Grace; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Lester G. Engel; parents Erwin & Alma Schatz; sister, Virginia Lambrecht; brothers-in-law, Arnold Lambrecht and Duwane (Sonny) Walker; sons-in-law, Lyle Walker and Fred Marwitz; Lester's six brothers, seven sisters, parents August & Mary Lang and adopted parents William & Rosa Engel.

Special thanks to Fern's nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that did honor the family's wishes for a private service, to Pastor Plagenz for having Communion with Fern, phone calls, visits and prayers, Cornerstone Funeral Services for the service, Randolph Heath Services for the loving care they gave our mother, and Gabby whom stayed with our mother so she was not alone.

A private graveside service for Fern was held on Friday, October 30 at Salemville Cemetery.

A Memorial Celebration of Fern's life will be held at a later, safer date.
