Frederick “Fred” Arriens, 77, of Waupun, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 18, 2013.



Fred was born August 15, 1935 in Milwaukee, the son of Max and Lisa Arriens. Fred graduated from Waupun High School in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country for eight years. While serving in Germany he married Johanna Kompel in Germany. Following his years in the service, Fred and Johanna moved to Waupun. In 1963 he became employed by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections at Central State Hospital and later at Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, retiring as a sergeant in 1990. While working for corrections, he also did roofing for his own business, Fred’s Roofing. Following his retirement he drove for Nichols Bus. Fred enjoyed wood working, fishing, and driving around viewing nature and sightseeing. He was a past member of Waupun Lions Club, a member of American Legion Post 210 of Waupun, and active with the State Union retiree group.

Fred is survived by his wife of 55 years, Johanna Arriens of Waupun; a son, Pete Arriens of Neosho; a daughter, Marlene Fairbank of Ripon; four grandchildren, Gary Fairbank, Jr., Amanda (Todd) Mischker, Tabatha Arriens, and Max (Krystle) Arriens; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evie Medema of Appleton.

Fred was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Arriens in 2006; a brother, Max Arriens, Jr.; and his parents.


Visitation:
Friends and relatives may call on the family at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and on Tuesday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Services:
Funeral services for Fred Arriens will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Rev. Mike Stock officiating.

Burial:
Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton.

American Legion Post 210 of Waupun will provide military honors at the cemetery.
