Obituary
Frederick "Fritz" John Frei, age 91 of Markesan, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Markesan Resident Home.
Fritz was born on January 31, 1922 to John and Elsie (nee Bielke) Frei. He graduated from Brandon High School and worked as a farmer, carpenter and gardener. Fritz faced all of his life with humor and faith. Fritz was the first farmer in Green Lake County with a milking parlor. He farmed the family farm for about 30 years; then he built the house he lived in for the remainder of his life. A life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater, Fritz was also a former ELCA Mission Builder and helped to build 8 churches from Kentucky to the state of Washington. Later in life, his garden gave him the joy of giving and sharing.
Fritz married Avis Hess in 1944. Together they raised two sons and one daughter. Fritz and Avis were blessed with 55 years together before she preceded him in death. He then married Grace Burmeister in 2002. Fritz's faith in Christ helped him to face all of the joys, sorrows and challenges in his life.
Fritz is survived by his children and their spouses, Ralph (Caroline) Frei of Markesan, Roger (Kathy) Frei of Fairwater and Grace (Jim) Werzinske of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Cindy Frei of Ripon, Jerry Frei of Jackson, WI, Jeff Frei of Markesan, Stephanie Frei of Berlin, Sarah Werzinske of Powell, OH and John Werzinske of Cincinnati, OH; great-grandchildren, Merrick, Cody, Faith, Jordan and Holden Frei; and his wife, Grace, along with her children and their families, Norman, Vernon and Brian Burmeister. He is further survived by his siblings, Grace Hazelwood, Ruth Ott, Robert Frei, Phyllis Butros, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Avis.
A Funeral Service for Frederick will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 Church St., Fairwater with Rev. Shari Routh officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday, June 17, 2013 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Service, 181 S. Main St., Markesan and also on Tuesday prior to the service at church, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Fairwater Cemetery.
