Garland John Levey, age 83, passed away at home on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Garland was born on February 14, 1943, in Portage, Wisconsin, the son of William and Clara (DeVries) Levey. He was raised on the family farm just north of Friesland and attended Friesland Elementary School and Cambria High School.
Garland worked on the family farm and at the Friesland feed mill when he was younger. After high school, he worked as a dragline operator in Oconomowoc and later in Portage for twenty years. He then switched occupations and worked for Larsen’s Food/Del Monte in Cambria, retiring from there at the age of 65.
On October 3, 1964, Garland was united in marriage to Nancy (Evenson) Levey at the Cambria Presbyterian Church. Together they enjoyed raising their two boys, as well as hunting, fishing, and camping.
Garland was a devoted member of First Reformed Church of Friesland, where he served as an Elder and Deacon for many years. He also served as an EMT in the town of Cambria for 20 years and as a dispatcher for the fire department. Garland was a member of the Cambria Conservation Club and served on the village board. He greatly enjoyed being involved in his community. After retirement, Garland volunteered at the McKenzie Center in Poynette, where he enjoyed making maple syrup during the Maple Syrup Festival and teaching fourth graders about the process. He and Nancy also purchased a camper and joined the Yellow Thunder Ramblers camping group, enjoying monthly camping trips with the group.
Garland is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Levey; his sons, Michael (Debra) Levey, and Jeffrey (Laurie Brown) Levey, both of Cambria; grandchildren, Trevor (Lauren Pietkiewicz) Levey and Savannah Levey; greatgrandson, Tanner; and further survived by cousins, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clara Levey; his sister, Sharon Cupery; and many aunts and uncles.
Garland will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was devoted to his Lord, his community, and his family.
Visitation for Garland will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Friesland Community Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Friesland Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Prairie Ridge Hospital of Columbus and Commonheart Hospice Care for their wonderful end-of-life care.
