Gerald "Herky" Don Uherka, age 76 of Beaver Dam, passed away at Hillside Manor on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

A memorial gathering will take place on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd, Beaver Dam, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 5:00 p.m. with Chaplain Dennis Richards officiating.

Gerald was born on December 13, 1941, the son of Don and Erna (Schlefke) Uherka. He was united in marriage to Charmaine Braun at First Ev. Lutheran Church. A talented engineer and mechanic, he first worked as a metal fabricator for Monarch before making a profession in maintenance at John Deere for over 25 years. He spent many years volunteering as a baseball coach in Beaver Dam for both the little and senior leagues, as well as serving on the board. He also assisted the Beaver Dam Lake Improvement Association. Ice fishing and deer hunting were things he enjoyed, and when not at a dog or horse track, he could be found at a local establishment, often Wodill's Tap, supporting his Packers or playing a poker machine. Each year he also made sure he was the first and last customer at the local Dairy Queen.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Charmaine Uherka of Beaver Dam; son, Dan (Andrea) Uherka of Beaver Dam; grandchildren, Celestine, Markiya, and Dannic Uherka; brother, Chuck Uherka; sisters, Bonnie McMillan and Diana Peterson; sister-in-law, Angeline Hanefeld; brothers-in-law, Elden (Shirley) and Dennis (Mary) Braun; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Michael and Mark Uherka; brother, Lynn Uherka; parents-in-law, Helen and Herman Braun; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ronald Braun, Bobby Braun, Marge (Earl) Stark, Bill Hanefeld, Margaret Stark, and Kenny (Virginia) Braun; nephews, Paul "Hotel" Rogers, Russell Hanefeld, and Anthony Braun; nieces, Beth Aplin and Cindy Hanefeld; and other relatives.
