Gerald Harold Hummelmeier, age 82, of Beaver Dam, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam.
Gerald was born June 29, 1943, the son of Carl and Clara (Spreeberg) Hummelmeier. On May 25, 1963, he married the love of his life, Betty J. Pritchard. Together they had two children: Craig and Todd. Gerald worked for the City of Beaver Dam Department of Public Works for over thirty years, and for the last years there he operated the street sweeper until retirement. Gerald was known by many and would help anyone who would ask. If he had it, he would also loan it to you, because he would say, “You can never have enough stuff,” but most of the time he couldn’t find it, so he would buy a new one.
Gerald and Betty loved to go to Branson, Missouri, to see the shows. When they called for the same hotel they stayed at, they would say, “This is Wisconsin is calling,” and the hotel knew who they were. Gerry and Betty would travel the state trying the many restaurants, either for a Friday fish fry or a Saturday prime rib. If you wanted to know of a restaurant, ask them, and chances were they were there.
Gerald is survived by his son, Todd, and daughter-in-law, Terry Hummelmeier; grandchildren, Lindsey Hummelmeier, Adam Hummelmeier, Cole Hummelmeier, and Clara Hummelmeier; and great-grandson, Breslin VandeKolk. He is also survived by his two brothers, Harold (Audrey) Hummelmeier and Charlie (Sharon) Hummelmeier; sister-in-law, Sandra Koehn; plus many other relatives and friends whose lives he touched and helped out.
Gerry was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Betty Hummelmeier; his parents, Carl and Clara Hummelmeier; his in-laws, Gomer and Winnie Pritchard; his sons, Craig and Mark (infant); and other relatives and friends.
