Gertie J. Katsma, age 92, of Cambria, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21st, 2023.

A memorial gathering for Gertie will take place on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Friesland Community Church, 107 E. Winnebago St., Friesland, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Darrin Vant Hoff officiating. Inurnment will take place at Friesland Cemetery.

Gertie was born in the township of Randolph on September 4th, 1931, the daughter of Louie and Anna (Tamminga) Elgersma. She was united in marriage to Clarence Katsma on December 28th, 1951. Clarence and Gertie spent their married life on their family farm, where she raised her family.  Gertie had a strong faith and was a lifelong member of the Friesland Community Church, where she was well known for mailing letters of encouragement to members of the congregation. She loved to knit and crochet, and always enjoyed baking delicious breads, cookies, and pies.

Gertie is survived by her children, Randy (Jane) Katsma of Waupun, Duane (Darlene) Katsma of Cambria, and Loretta (Gary) Froehlich of Cambria; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Lawrence (Bernice) Elgersma; her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Vander Galien, Carol Moat, and Dorothy Bloc, her brother-in-law, Siebert Kooima, and further survived by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, an infant son, Gary, her sister, Claire "Kay" Halfmann.
