Hal Freriks, age 83 of Waupun, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Christian Homestead in Waupun.
Hal Freriks was born August 21, 1942, the son of Harvey and Kathleen (Lemmenes) Freriks. He attended Waupun schools, graduating from Waupun High School in 1960. On May 9, 1964, he was united in marriage to Donna Flier and the couple resided in Waupun all their married lives.
Hal proudly served his country with the Wisconsin Army National Guard and served a year of active service at Ft. Lewis, Washington during the Berlin Crisis. He was then employed at Silgan Containers in Waupun from where he retired. Hal was active with the 4-H Club where he taught woodworking, and during his spare time he enjoyed repairing cars. He was a lifetime member of First Reformed Church where he had served as a deacon.
Hal is survived by his children, David Freriks, Vonda (Alan) Buchda, Steven Freriks, Linda (Tim) Haag, and Brad (Jennifer) Freriks; grandchildren Justin (Michelle) Freriks, Bryce (Margaret) Buchda, Brandt (fiancée, Erin) Buchda, Brenden Buchda, Kodie (Natalie) Freriks, Heidi Haag, Joshua (special friend, Abby) Haag, Mikayla (Bryce) Weiland, Corey Freriks, and Haley Freriks; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Riley, and Natalie Freriks, Ellie and Leighton Buchda, and Dawson Weiland. He is further survived by his brothers, Ray (Gwen) Freriks and Ken (Nancy) Freriks; sisters, Judy (Rudy) Thut, Janice (Robert) Abraham, Kathy (Bruce) McMyler, Susan (Mike) Hoekstra, and Lorretta Wightman; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Harlan (Sandra) Flier, Marcia (special friend Steve) Medema, and Debra (Chuck) Bille; along with several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, in 2025; his parents, Harvey and Kathleen; his in-laws, Edward and Mildred Flier; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Freriks; brother-in-law, Pat Wightman; and other relatives.
Visitation for Hal will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Werner Harmsen Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.. Visitation will also take place on Friday, March 13, 2026, at First Reformed Church in Waupun from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Barry Lang officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun with military honors by the Waupun American Legion Post 210.
If desired, memorials in Hal's name may be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
