Harley Albert Guenther, age 85 of Beaver Dam, died peacefully surrounded by his family at Hillside Manor on Friday, February 29, 2008.
Harley was born on July 9, 1922 to the late Ray and Effie (nee Knorr) Guenther. On October 9, 1943, he was united in marriage to Florence Marie Priepke. Harley farmed for a number of years and then went to work for Stokley Van Camp from 1960 – 1970. He owned and operated Bumstead's Silver Bell in South Beaver Dam from 1970-1975. He operated Guenther's Garbage Service from 1975- 1984, at which point he retired.
Harley was on the Calamus Town Board and a member of the local Elks Lodge 1540. He enjoyed bowling in his early years with friends and cherished the time he could spend playing cards and visiting with his children and grandchildren.
Harley is survived by his five children, Roger (Judy) Guenther of Beaver Dam, Lois (Norbert) Matuszeski of Randolph, Linda Wolc of Fond du Lac, Debbie (Mike) Gold of Austin, Texas, and Sue Guenther of Fond du Lac; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Francis Meitzel of Beaver Dam; and a special friend, Marge Schultz of Beaver Dam. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Florence in 2001.
Friends and family are invited for a visitation on Monday, March 3, 2008 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd, Beaver Dam. A funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bob Castro officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, and a luncheon will then be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hillside Hospice.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Continental Manor of Randolph, Hillside Hospice, and Hillside Manor of Beaver Dam for their compassionate care.
