Obituary

Harold E. Precht, age 99 of rural Beaver Dam, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Golden Living Center – Continental Manor in Randolph.

Harold E. Precht was born on May 31, 1911 to Henry and Johana (nee Cronroth) Precht in Lind, Washington. He graduated from Portland School of Engineering in Portland, Oregon with degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering. After graduation, he worked in Alaska for four years with a company that built bridges before moving to Seattle, WA. In March 1941, he was married to Doris and in 1963, he married Bryle Evans. In 1978, he was united in marriage to Shirley Vellema. From the early 1940's until his retirement, he worked in the food processing industry, where he designed and built equipment for businesses all over the world, including the Philippines, Japan, Israel, Holland, Mexico, every province in Canada and every state in the United States. Harold was a member of the St. Jerome's Catholic Church in Columbus, Lost Lake Historical Society in Randolph and the Elks Club. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and past President of St. Mary's Service League in Walla Walla, WA.

Harold is survived by his wife Shirley of Beaver Dam; son Rev. Harold "Neal" (Carroll) Precht of West Virginia; daughter Virginia Mary Johnson of Illinois; three grandchildren, Roxanne (Rufford) Bright of West Virginia, Dianne (Michael) Reese and their son Samuel of Indiana, Major Gregg (Marissa) Johnson and their sons Tyler and Noah of Alaska; his father-in-law Sylvester (Ruth) Wallintin; his sister-in-laws, Jean (Frank) Edmunds of Beaver Dam, Jane (Terrance) Nenno of Winter, WI and Janet (Bobby) Posthuma of Burnett; and a special niece Alice (David) Wittenbecker of Spokane, WA. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl, Henry and Walter; his sister, Eleanor; and his mother-in-law, Ellamae.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Harold will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jerome's Catholic Church, 1550 Farnham St, Columbus with Father Bruce Hennington officiating. A visitation will take prior to the service at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to YMCA in Walla Walla, WA, Randolph Lost Lake Historical Society or the Dodge County Humane Society.
