Harold J Hicks

Jan 29, 1936 — Jun 12, 2026

Harold Joseph Hicks, 90, died while under hospice care at Randolph Health Services on June 12, 2026.

On January 29, 1936, Harold was born to Evelyn and Clifford Hicks in Harrisburg, IL. Harold was their second born of three children, the oldest to survive to adulthood, after his brother Raymond died in infancy. Harold adored his younger sister Jeaneen Shaefer, 9 years his junior. Harold grew up in Harrisburg and moved to South Bend, IN, while he was in high school. Harold graduated in 1954 from Washington High School in South Bend, IN. Harold met his beloved wife, Carol Marie Hawley Hicks, from Madison, WI, on a blind date in 1952. Harold became smitten with Carol and made multiple round trips between South Bend and Madison while they were dating. Harold and Carol were married on November 5, 1955. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Together, they were proud parents of three children: Sandra Jean Hicks Koehn, Susan Elizabeth Hicks Williams, and Lonny Forrest Hicks. They raised their family in Madison until they moved to Beaver Dam, WI, in 1976. Shortly after, Lonny, age 15, tragically died in an accident. Harold’s employment spanned many occupations, from starting as a brakeman on the railroad, to working in the automobile business as a service manager and eventually owning a car dealership. Harold’s final career as a financial advisor extended over two decades. Harold was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder. Harold served on the Dodge County Board of Adjustments for 16 years. He was a member of the Freemasons for over 60 years, where he became a 3rd Degree Master Mason.

Harold and Carol loved to travel. They visited almost every state, exploring National Parks, and cruising with family and friends. They relished family vacations to northern WI every summer, where they fished and enjoyed water activities with their children and grandchildren. As avid Brewer fans, Harold and Carol followed every game, even traveling to Arizona for Spring Training on occasion. Harold loved his family and encouraged all of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their various activities throughout life. Harold was a very social person and loved to tell stories. He spent the last three years under the care of Randolph Health Services. He lived out his calling there, sharing stories and listening to the concerns of the staff as they came to him for advice. Harold’s family is grateful for the staff of the Randolph Care Facility and their loving care of Harold. They would also like to thank Agrace Hospice Care for their support of Harold and the family during his final weeks.

Harold is preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol Hicks; parents, Evelyn and Clifford Hicks; son, Lonny Hicks; brother, Raymond Hicks; sister-in-law JoAnn Hawley; and brothers-in-law, Steve Sayer and Donald Behnke.

Surviving Harold are daughters, Sandra Koehn, and Sue Williams (Carrot); sister, Jeaneen Shaefer (Bob); grandchildren, Paula Koehn (Ronald Kirby), Jessica Koehn, Rachel Williams, Angela Tyler-Williams (Adelyn), Nathaniel Williams (Kelsey); great-grandson, Austin Koehn; and sister-in-law, Elaine Behnke.
