Helen Bronkhorst

Helen Bronkhorst, age 85, of Waupun. passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Helen was born January 11, 1941 in Waupun, the daughter of Andrew and Lila Hopp Buwalda. Helen married Lyle Bronkhorst on February 5, 1957, in Brandon. Together, they raised three children and spent most of their married lives in Waupun. Helen assisted her husband with the fox farm and trapping. She enjoyed reading, attending rummage sales, and going to auctions. Helen was a longtime member of Trinity Reformed Church and a life member of the Wisconsin Trapper Association.

Helen is survived by her husband, Lyle Bronkhorst of Waupun; three children: Robert Bronkhorst of Waupun, Dawn Meyer of Waupun, and Richard Bronkhorst of Waupun; grandchildren: Ryan (Jenny) Meyer and Blake (Brittany) Bronkhorst; step-grandson, Bryon (Katie) Schrank; great-grandchildren: Sean Meyer, Olivia Meyer, Evelyn Bronkhorst, Esther Bronkhorst, and Edith Bronkhorst; step-grandchild, Brynley Schrank; siblings: Rev. Jerry (Sharon) Buwalda of South Dakota, Ardis Westhuis of Arizona, Erwin (Evelyn) Buwalda of Waupun, and Mary (Scott) Soodsma of Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her children; Debra Bronkhorst and Diane Bronkhorst; and nephew Ethan Buwalda.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 3 pm at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun. Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 1pm until the time of service.
