Helene Marjorie Prochnow entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the age of 94 years, 10 months and 20 days. She was born on October 4, 1921 at the Grams farm on Mackford Prairie to Heinrich Ludwig Grams and Anna Borth Grams Kantorowicz. She was baptized into God's Kingdom on October 30, 1921 and confirmed in her faith on April 14, 1935. She received her elementary education at Lonely Cedar Grade School and graduated from Markesan High School in May of 1939. On February 8, 1942 she married the love of her life, Milan Prochnow and made their home on the family farm. Helene was a member of Lonely Cedar Homemakers and St. John's Ladies Aid. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Markesan, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, singing in the Choir and providing organ music to the congregation for 64 years, retiring in 2007. She enjoyed working at Birkies Grocery Store, but is probably best known as the "flower lady" at Ted's.
Survivors include two daughters, Corrine (Merlyn) Krueger and Karen (Jerry) Stellmacher of Markesan; eight grandchildren, Allan (Lori) Krueger, Anne (Don) Einhorn, Jon Krueger, Marc Krueger, Geoffrey Stellmacher, Kristina (Jeff) Mildebrandt, Jason Stellmacher and Brian (Heather) Stellmacher; eight great-grandchildren, Brad (Jessica) Krueger, Kimberly (Joshua) Schuenemann, Jesse Muldrow, Morgan and Lauren Krueger, Brady and Wyatt Mildebrandt and Amelia Stellmacher; four great-great-grandchildren, Colin and Coty Krueger and Noah and Olivia Schuenemann; one step-brother, Carl (Elly) Kantorowicz; one sister-in-law, Loraine Lohrey; two brothers-in-law, Lorenz Prochnow and Milton (Marian) Prochnow; other relatives and many friends.
Helene was preceded in death by her husband, Milan in 1998; one infant daughter; one son, Curtiss; her parents and step-father Albert Kantorowicz; two brothers, Willis Grams and Leland Grams; one sister, Lois Kirst; one half-brother, Elwood Grams and one step-brother, Erich Kantorowicz.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 181 S. Main St., Markesan from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Markesan from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jason Jobs will officiate. Burial will take place at Markesan Memorial Cemetery.
