Hank was born in Illinois on March 18, 1930, the son of Henry and Emilia (Kopeika) Hedberg. He grew up on the southside of Chicago and eventually graduated from Northwestern University. As a CPA, he worked at a number of companies, including Pricewaterhouse, Cracker Jack (Borden's) and Tranzact Systems. Hank proudly served his country in the United States Army and the US Air Force Reserves. On May 16 th , 1953, he married the love of his life, Alma, and after being honorably discharged from active duty, moved back to Chicago to continue building their family. Hank and Alma brought their family to Green Lake in 1968 and immediately fell in love with the lake. They spent every summer on the lake thereafter, eventually buying a lot on the lake and building their dream home, where they retired in 1997.
Hank was an avid outdoorsman, and passed his love of fishing, boating, and shooting on to his children and grandchildren. He could often be found behind a camera, documenting his family's adventures and memories, and developing the pictures in his darkroom. Hank's faith was also an important part of his life; he and Alma were active members at Terrace Shores Evangelical Free Church. Hank thoroughly enjoyed retirement and invested his time in many activities, including bowling, golfing, wine making, gardening, and volunteering with the American Legion (Princeton Post 216).
Hank is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alma Hedberg (nee Giberson); children, Jean (Michael) Regan, Joan (Thomas) Higgins; son-in-law Patrick Carroll; grandchildren Dana Regan, Kelley (Michael) Bradley, Patrick Regan, Joseph Regan, Brian (Gaby) Higgins, Kevin Higgins, Daniel Carroll, and John Carroll; and great-grandchild, Benjamin Bradley. He is also survived by many other relatives and close friends, including some who considered Hank an additional father/grandfather figure.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carla Carroll; and other relatives.
