Hilda M. Schmidt, 95, of Fox Lake, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 23, 2012 at Waupun Memorial Hospital.
Hilda was born Feb. 2, 1917 in Cambria the daughter of Frank and Martha Grewatch Kolitz. On September 24, 1935 she married Clarence Schmidt at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fox Lake. Following their marriage the couple resided in Fox Lake all of their married lives.
Hilda was a hardworking, self-sacrificing, supportive and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend all her life. She helped Clarence on the farm, with his trucking business and cared for him in his later years. Hilda helped her children pay for college expenses and contributed to family finances by working outside the home at various companies including Rockwell of Randolph, The Wisconsin Cheeseman of Sun Prairie, Wayland Academy of Beaver Dam and the Cambria canning factory. Hilda donated her time, talent and treasure over her lifetime to such things as fund raising events that helped purchase musical instruments and new uniforms for the Fox Lake High School Band. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothing for her family and friends. She was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fox Lake and for many years was a member of the Ladies Aid at St. John’s. Hilda set many great examples for those who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Hilda is survived by her two children: Edward (Mary) Schmidt of Combined Locks, WI and Joan (Larry) Miller of Greendale, WI. Two grandchildren; Kathleen (Steve) Stippich of Juneau, WI and Paul Schmidt of Appleton, WI. Three great-grandchildren; Aaron and Megan Stippich and Taylor Schmidt. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Schmidt in 2002 and two brothers.
Services:
Funeral services for Hilda Schmidt will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fox Lake with Rev. David Nottling officiating.
Burial:
Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery Chapel of the Risen Christ in Fond du Lac.
Visitation:
Friends and relatives of Hilda Schmidt may call on the family at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
The Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home of Waupun and staff are serving the family.
