IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hugh C.
Hatzinger
November 4, 1959 – July 4, 2018
Hugh "Huey" C. Hatzinger, age 58 of Beaver Dam, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.
A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd, Beaver Dam, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial services at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Mike Erwin officiating.
Hugh was born on November 4, 1959 to Howard John and Dorothy (Reinert) Hatzinger at St. Joseph's Hospital in Beaver Dam, WI. Hugh was baptized on November 22. He joined his three brothers at home, John, Marc, and Paul. His Godparents were Bernadine Hammer and Ronald Schreier.
Hugh went to St. Peter's and St. Pat's Catholic Schools and graduated from BDHS in 1976. He then went to Moraine Park Technical College to get his certification for Auto Body Technician. Hugh worked at Thomas Chevrolet, Tom Reilly, and then Countryside.
He found his true passion in the past 7 years working as a Custodial Engineer for the Beaver Dam Unified School District. The past 4 years he was at South Beaver Dam. He truly cherished his "team" of amazing women. He loved the kids and came home every night sharing the funnies of the day.
As a young boy, he made a lot of great friends and they're still friends to this day and are more like family. You name it, they did it; whether it be box car racing, riding bikes on rims, or some wild bowling nights.
In his teens he found the passion for race cars. He started out as part of the pit crew and they raced throughout the state. Hugh had moved on to ASA Racing Series and was a crew member for a variety of drivers. He traveled all over the country and to Canada twice. Hugh did this every weekend plus working full time during the week. He met some amazing drivers and had numerous racing families and friends. He did this from 1985 until 2000. After that he decided to rebuild a dune buggy. He had gone to over 100 shows and placed every time. The dune buggy was named Lil Squirt because "Finding Nemo" was his favorite family movie. He most recently won a trophy on Father's Day at the Swan City Car Show.
Hugh's family and friends helped him build his house and in September of 1996 they broke ground. Hugh was so blessed and felt so much pride that everyone helped and supported him. He picked out every piece of wood in his home. His dad and brothers were here constantly working so hard and he truly loved you and felt so blessed with your help.
Also at that time he was expecting his only child, Kelsey Rae Anne, who was born in September of 1997. Kelsey was his pride and joy. He went to her horse shows, they did car shows together, had many bonfires to chat by, played basketball, watched movies, or just hung out.
Hugh's hobbies were going to races, going on dune buggy rides, working on cars, and helping his family and friends. He touched every person he has ever met. His sense of humor and love of life was a big part of him.
Hugh is survived by his daughter, Kelsey R. Hatzinger; his partner of 25 years, Brenda Schumacher; his brothers, Marc (Donna) and their children, Twila (Jon), Megan (Jake), and Amanda; Paul and his children, Kara and Matt (Jamie); his cousin Tom (Lisa) Hatzinger and their children. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Dorothy; a baby sister; aunts and uncles, Eleanor Ehrke, Irving Ehrke, Urban Hatzinger and Crystal Hatzinger; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Reinert, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hatzinger; his eldest brother John Hatzinger; 10 unborn children; cousins and other relatives.
Memorials may be directed to his daughter, Kelsey Hatzinger.
