Inez Wahlen, age 97, of Beaver Dam, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam. Inez was born in Pardeeville, WI on October 26, 1911 to George and Agnes (nee Stancer) Steiner. She graduated from Pardeeville High School in 1930. She was united in marriage to Theodore Wahlen at St. Peter's Rectory in Beaver Dam in 1932. Besides being a homemaker, Inez was a waitress at several Beaver Dam area restaurants and she also worked at Beaver Specialties. In 1951, she co-founded the Gloria Wahlen Dance Studio in Beaver Dam, where she performed all aspects of the business for 48 years, except actually teaching dance. You could always find her with the dance studio unit in area parades. Inez loved cooking and everyone always looked forward to her delicious holiday meals. She enjoyed many hobbies, including roller skating in her earlier years, poetry, reading, gardening, flowers and sewing. It wasn't uncommon for her to stay up all night long just to finish a sewing project. Inez was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished all of the time that she spent with her family and she will be dearly missed.

Inez is survived by her four children, Theodore "Ted" (JoAnn) Wahlen, Gloria (Ken) Waddell, Judith "Judi" Welsch, all of Beaver Dam, and Peter F. Wahlen of Sturgeon Bay; her sister-in-law, Charlotte (Dan) Ferguson of Jefferson, WI; 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Theodore in 1941, her brother Lyell Steiner, her sister Genny Derrick, her son-in-law Jim Welsch, her grandson Tracey Wahlen, brother and sister-in-laws, and other relatives.

A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Inez will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd, Beaver Dam at 6:00 p.m. with Fr. Tony Klink officiating. A Memorial Gathering will also be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. Inurnment will take place at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hillside Manor Activity Department or the charity of the donor's choice.

The Family would like to thank the entire staff at Hillside Manor where Inez resided the past 3 years and was on the Prom Court in 2008.
