Obituary

Jack A. Thiel, age 81 of Markesan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Waupun Memorial Hospital.

Jack was born on February 12, 1932 in Shawno, WI, the son of Art and Ann (nee Klement) Thiel. On September 6, 1952, he married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Janet Schwartz in the town of Herman. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Jack was a proud veteran and Marine, having served in the Marine Corps in Korea. He was a member of American Legion Post #395 in Kingston and also the Ripon VFW. He loved sports, especially football, which he lettered in during high school. He also played baseball, basketball and track, earning letters in all four sports.

Jack worked for Wisconsin Power & Light Company for over 39 years, retiring in 1991. Every time that he advanced in his career, he was blessed to have lived twice in Lake Geneva, once in Janesville and when he became the local representative in Markesan, he decided to make this our hometown. He really enjoyed serving his customers and made many wonderful friends. Jack loved watching sports, dancing, bowling, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Markesan.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Thiel of Markesan; his children, Nancy Evans of Madison, Jay Thiel of Waupun and Teri Vande Kolk of Markesan; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son James in an automobile accident in 1988; three brothers; one sister; five sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

A Funeral Service for Jack will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 65 W. Catherine St., Markesan with Rev. Jason Jobs officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service at church, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Jack will be laid to rest at Markesan Memorial Cemetery, with graveside military honors provided by American Legion Post #395.
