Obituary

James "Jim" E. Barstow, age 71 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2011 at his home surrounded by family.

James was born on March 19, 1940 in Beaver Dam to Ervin J. and Eva Grace (nee Chrislaw) Barstow. He graduated from Randolph High School and University of Wisconsin - Madison Short Course in Agriculture. He also was a graduate of Mason City Auctioneer School. Jim worked as a farmer and hauled milk. On August 10, 1963, he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Huber at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Jim was a proud member of the Randolph 4-H Club and Courtland United Methodist Church.

Jim was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed fishing, restoring tractors, doing construction projects, telling stories, dancing to polka music and entertaining family and friends in his workshop. He enjoyed his travels to Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Omaha, Missouri and St. Croix, WI. He treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his grandson Kyle. He had a witty sense of humor and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

James is survived by his wife, Mary Alice of Beaver Dam; his children, Rebecca (Matthew) Ligay of Sarasota, FL, Roxann (Edward) Pieper of Hartford, Tim (Julie) Barstow of Beaver Dam, Vickie (Keith) Belkye of Oshkosh and Sherry (Steve) Schultz of Beaver Dam; one grandson, Kyle Fischer of Beaver Dam; his siblings, Helen Weisensel of Beaver Dam, Mary Jean (Adrian) Kurth of Brown Deer, Joanne Fadness of Beaver Dam, Christine (Peter) Knaup of Beaver Dam and Roy Barstow of Juneau; two brothers-in-law, Carl (Carol) Huber of Allentown, PA and Walter (Wilma) Huber of Winter Park, FL. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James was preceded in death by his father, Ervin in 2002; his mother, Eva Grace on January 21, 2011; two uncles, Robert and Wallace Chrislaw; his mother and father-in law, Alois and Alice Huber; his brother-in-law, Lyle Weisensel and other relatives.

A Funeral Service for James will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam with Rev. Jeff Nicholas officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, April 28, 2011 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and also on Friday prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held at the funeral home immediately following the service. Interment will take place at Courtland Methodist Cemetery, Township of Courtland, Columbia County.
