Obituary

James "Jim" W. Griesbach, age 91 of Beaver Dam, passed away after a long illness on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Sylvan Crossing Assisted Living in Beaver Dam.

Jim was born in Highland Park, IL on February 17, 1922 to Emil and Katherine (nee Carlson) Griesbach. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School and was united in marriage to Betty Schweiger on August 18, 1949 in Evansville, WI. Jim was a distinguished World War II veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Army Air Force as a Sergeant from October 1942 until November 1945 in the 348 Fighter Squadron in Honington Royal Air Force Base, United Kingdom. Upon returning from the War, he worked at area canning factories and was a mail carrier for a short time. He also worked at Beaver Specialties and eventually retired from Chrysler Outboard.

Jim had a great sense of humor, and he enjoyed reading, drawing, taking pictures and watching sports, especially football, baseball and racing. He was a member of The Beaver Dam Free Methodist Church and VFW Post #1163. Jim had the privilege to go on the Badger Honor Flight to Washington DC at the age of 88.

Jim is survived by his children, Gordon (Linda) Griesbach, Langley, WA, Doreen Griesbach of Middleton and Karen (Paul) Tropp of Janesville; his son-in-law, Jeff Omen of Beaver Dam; his grandchildren, Jake and Shane Omen of Beaver Dam and Josiah Tropp of Janesville; his sister, Kathy Moritz of New Bern, SC; and his sister-in-law, Shirley Griesbach of Sun City West, AZ. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty in 1996; his daughter, Debra Omen in 2012; his infant sister, Ruth; his brothers, Gordon and Donald and his son-in-law, Butch Ledworowski.

A Funeral Service for Jim will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 135 Keller Blvd. in Beaver Dam with Rev. Jeff Nicholas officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service at Cornerstone, beginning at 11:30 a.m. A luncheon will immediately follow the Service at Cornerstone and interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Beaver Dam.
