Obituary

Janet Marie Richardson (née Biersach), age 82 of Beaver Dam, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

A memorial gathering for Jan will take place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Jan was born October 17, 1942, to Walter and Alice Edwardson-Biersack in Janesville, Wisconsin. The family moved to Beaver Dam in 1949. Jan attended Jefferson Elementary School through grade 8 and graduated from BDHS in 1961. Marriage followed, and two sons, James Braemer and Daniel Braemer, were born. In 1972, Jan attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and graduated in 1976 with a degree in Elementary Education. She began teaching at Jefferson Elementary that year. Marty Richardson and Jan became man and wife in October of 1987. The family grew to five children—Kathy, Lori, and Bill Richardson, Jim and Dan Braemer. Jan earned her master's degree from Marian College in Fond du Lac. She continued to teach at Jefferson School until 1994, but taught summer school classes for 26 years. Marty and Jan enjoyed traveling, camping, and "wintering" in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas for many years. Volunteering was always an important part of Jan's life, and she enjoyed being busy, trying new things, and working with other people. She was part of PALS for 20 years, taught classes for BDAAA and became a board member of DCCA. She also taught the class "Experiences in Art" at the Watermark and became an advisory board member there.

Jan is survived by her children, James (Chris) Braemer, Daniel (Karen) Braemer, Dr. Kathleen (Michael) Cooke Gallagher, Loretta "Lori" (Dr. Glenn) Albin, William (Kathy) Richardson; grandchildren, Nick Keel, Jordan (Aaron) Barthuly, David James "DJ" (Stacie) Braemer, Cody Braemer, Jayme (Shawn) Lemon, Kathryn "Katie" Albin, Kristie (Jeremy) Chaudet, Marty (Jenna) Richardson, and Sarah (Joey) Lee; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois (Ken) Foss, Marge Linn, and Marlous Martinsen; and further survived by dear nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marty Richardson in 2018; and other relatives.

Jan felt so blessed to have thoroughly enjoyed her blended family of children and their spouses, wonderful grandchildren, and a growing number of great-grandchildren.

Another blessing in Jan's life were the friends that were always there for her and each other. You know who you are – thank you so much.

If desired, memorials in Jan's name may be directed to: Beaver Dam Scholarship Foundation, Dodge County Food Pantry, Clothes 4 Kids, DCCA, or St. Katharine Drexel.

From Jan: "No flowers are necessary, as I enjoyed them in life. I did stop to smell the roses, thanks to my family & friends."
