Jeff Medema, age 63, of Alto, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 12, 2025 after a heart attack.

Jeff was born on February 10, 1962, in Plymouth, WI, the son of Clayton "Clutch" and Carol Ruesink Medema. A graduate of Waupun High School, He married Mary Wierenga, June 27, 1981. Jeff began his professional journey in 1980 as a mechanic and wrecker driver at Asmus Motors in Waupun. His career spanned various roles to include working at Ruan Trucking, the Alto Township, where he was responsible for plowing snow and mowing ditches, and John Deere Horicon Works, where he ultimately retired as a welder in July in 2022. Following his retirement, Jeff found joy in working at Tom Dooley Apple Orchard, where he used his skills further by making apple sauce.

Jeff dedicated over 20 years of his life to the Alto Fire Department, where his unwavering commitment to helping others was evident. He took great pride in serving his community in various capacities and formed lasting bonds with his fellow firefighters. Beyond his dedication to public service, Jeff was an avid painter who created lasting memories by painting his sons' first cars. He reveled in activities such as deer hunting, boating at the lake, fishing, and relishing the great outdoors. Together with his wife Mary, whom he cherished for 43 wonderful years, Jeff undertook the remodeling of their home and assisted their sons in their own home improvement projects.

Jeff is survived by his wife Mary; their three sons: Tyler (Katie Casey) Medema, Terry (Tabitha Holbach) Medema, and Travis (Rachel Lee) Medema; two step-grandchildren: Hanaha Casey and Tanner Schultz; his sisters: Debra (Mark) Vandeslunt and Lisa (Mark) Gorecki; his sister-in-law, Jean (Randy) TerBeest; and brother-in-law, John Wierenga

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton “Clutch” and Carol Medema, and his in-laws, Jim and Mildred Wierenga. 

In this time of mourning, we remember a man whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of so many. Jeff will leave a lasting legacy of kindness, creativity, and love for his family and community. His memory will forever be treasured by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025 at 6 p.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Rev. Kevin Van Wyk officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday at the funeral home from 3-6 p.m.
