Joan Selk, age 83, of Randolph passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by loved ones.

Joan Charlene Selk (Nee Gove) was born on April18th, 1941 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to Jeanette and George Gove. She attended Randolph High School where she met the love of her life, her "honey", Vernon Selk. They married at St. Mary's Church in Lost Lake on August 29th, 1959. They had 10 children, whom she loved dearly, and they lived out their dreams on the family farm. The farm became home to anyone who needed a place to go, and she always made sure that no one left hungry.

Joan or "Bucka" as she was known to all 20 of her grandchildren was a fierce supporter of any of their endeavors. From keeping referees in line, to tracking down any semiprofessional athlete to sign a ball or take a picture for her grandkids (even if she had no idea who they were). She loved loudly and she was never afraid to brag any one of them up to anyone who would listen. She loved calling into the Barn Show to have "Horsey Keep Your Tail up" played with a happy birthday message for them. She never missed any of her grandkid's games (except when Friday night football was interrupting her polka dancing at the VFW).

Joan was a loved waitress at Schaumburg's and Feil's Supper Clubs for over 20 years. She was a natural caregiver for anyone that needed a someone. She ended her career working as a nursing assistant at the Columbus Community Hospital, where she made many lifelong relationships while taking care of others.

She was always on the go. She loved playing cards, polka dancing, and going to the slots with her friends. She was known to show up unannounced anywhere her children or grandchildren were, blaring her horn to announce her arrival. She will be remembered for being a passionate competitor in all things she did, even if it was a game of barn ball or backyard softball. She was selfless, and there to support any neighbor, friend, or even stranger. She was stubborn, so sweet, and had a sassiness she kept with her until the very end.

She is survived, and missed dearly by her husband of 65 years, Vernon Selk, her children, Todd (Nanette) Selk of Beaver Dam, Terri (David) Kelm of Randolph, Tracy (Scott) Sadoski of Randolph, Tammy (Joe) Loeck of Columbus, Trisha Selk of Columbus, Tara (Bruce) Selk-Bartels of Columbus, Timothy Selk of Randolph, and Tyler (Michelle) Selk of Waunakee, her grandchildren Kim (Mike) Biel, Amanda (Jake) Stein, Christopher, Aaron, and Kyle (Karys) Kelm, Jordon Witthun and Carolynn (Mike) Mathena,  Zachary (Morgan), Jacob (Emma), and Dominic (Desiree) Brooke, Casey (Cheyenne), Jaice (Elli), and Brayden Selk, Breleigh (Nick) Swenson, Kenzie and Collin Selk, and Eliot, Gavin, and Nolan Selk, great-grandchildren, Bristol, Bennett, and Brady Biel, Nash and Pierce Stein, Violet Kelm, Hazel and Luella Kelm, Zella and Oden Mathena, Vaida and Tripp Brooke, Hendrix, Arielle and Scarlett Brooke, Declan Brooke, and Harlow Swenson, her siblings, Carrie Flegner, Patsy Huizenga, Jeanette (Harry) Manning, George "Emil" (JoAnne) Gove, and Vern Gove, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, and other beloved friends.

She was preceded in her death by her parents, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, her children Tonya and Thomas Selk, grandchild Brandon Witthun, and great grandchild Silas Selk.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Sam Poser for his care and compassion these past couple months.
